Data
on population indicate that:
25 % of the population between 16
and 64 have a self-defined disability, 15 % report some minor or major
functional limitations concerning legs, arms, hands, sight, hearing, behaviour
or intellect (survey data 2006, nearly the same as 1995, Bengtsson 2008). 11 %
of these disabilities are congenital, 89 % are acquired. The risk of acquiring
a disability grows from around 0,2 % yearly in childhood to 1,6 % yearly for
men and 2 % yearly for women in the later part of their fifties.
