Policy and enforcement bodies

The key national bodies with responsibility for disability law and policy implementation include:

The minister with responsibility for disability policy. One of the government members is given this function; currently it is the welfare minister.

The Central Disability Council (Det centrale handicapråd, DCH) consists of 7 members appointed by organisations of disabled people, 7 members representing relevant ministries and local authorities, and a neutral chairman (most often a widely respected former politician). It can take political initiatives in all areas of disability policy and has wide brief.

The Centre of Equal Opportunities (Center for Ligebehandling af Handicappede, CLH), has a staff of 16 persons and acts as a secretariat for DCH.  It sponsors small research projects, conferences, information material with a view to to uncovering problems people with disabilities meet and promoting sector responsibility.
