National law and strategyDenmark has signed the United Nations Convention, which has been translated into Danish. Ratification is under preparation. There is a proposal of 06.02.2009 from the opposition in parliament of signing the Optional Protocol too, but the government has not signed it. Important national laws, policies and strategies concerning disabled people include: The Law on compensation to disabled people in employment (lov om kompensation til handicappede i erhverv 2001, 2002, 2005, 2006) offers among other things personal assistants to disabled persons, if it is necessary for employment. The Law on active employment effort (lov om aktiv beskæftigelsesindsats, 2005) contains among other things provision for flexible jobs, that is jobs with permanent wage support of 50 % or 65 %. The Law on social service (den sociale servicelov, 1998ff) covers, among other things, personal assistance in daily life, assistive aids and equipment, adaptation to the home, sheltered employment and payment of special expenses that follow from the disability. Policies and strategies: The principle of sector responsibility (mainstreaming) is promoted in all administrative areas through the activities of the Central Disability Council. Since 2007 municipalities also have had to establish disability councils. |
