Introduction themes covered by ANEDeasy-to-read

The research and reporting activities of ANED are organised according to key themes negotiated between the scientific team and the European Commission. Four key areas of activity are identified in the work plan, with new sub-themes developing as the work progresses (you can access more information about each theme using the menu on the left).

ANED will provide access to information and analysis about existing EU laws and policies relevant to disabled people in Europe. During the first year, this work is focused mainly on reviews of law and policy at the European level (e.g. primary and secondary legislation). The objective is to understand where and how disability is being included and where there is a need for development of new law and policy.

ANED will provide access to information and analysis about sources of comparative data relevant to disability equality in Europe. During the first year, this work is focused mainly on reviews of statistical data sources available for research. The objective is to understand where and how disability is being included and where there is a need for development of new data and indicators.

ANED will link policy developments in Europe to international developments (particularly the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities). During the first year, this work is focused on methods and indicators for monitoring the rights of disabled people. The objective is to understand how rights are being monitored internationally and the kinds of methods that could be used in Europe.

ANED will provide detailed analysis and comparison of national disability policies in European countries, selecting specific themes each year. During the first year, this work is focused on employment policies and policies for social inclusion and social protection. The objective is to understand how European strategies are being implemented in each country and to share lessons and good practice.
